In 2013 some domestic corn deep-processing products performed poorly, such as xanthan gum, Vitamin B2, MSG, and edible ethanol. Accordingly, manufacturers of these products suffered huge losses in that year. In an attempt to turn loss into gain in the near future, many companies have taken responsive measures. For example, Henan Lotus Flower Gourmet Powder Co., Ltd. has been committed to cost saving, and Hubei Guangji Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. chose to suspend some Vitamin B2 production lines for a longer time to boost the price of this product.
By contrast, thanks to some favorable factors, the prices of other products such as furfural and corn germ meal rebounded or remained high in late 2013. Besides, Shandong Longlive Bio-technology Co., Ltd., the largest xylo-oligosaccharide producer in China, discovered a new way to sell its end products.
Meanwhile, there are two things worth noting. First, in Dec. 2013, China returned more unapproved GM DDGS to the US, after returned unapproved genetically modified (GM) corn to the US earlier that year. Second, avian influenza broke out again recently. If avian influenza widely breaks out in China, the domestic poultry industry, feed industry and some corn deep-processing industries may suffer great loss again.
